SCUSD Board considers axing year-round schools

From today’s Bee:

Parents and teachers are pleading with Sacramento City Unified trustees to rescind a decision to put the district’s last eight year-round schools on a traditional calendar.

District officials argue that the change will save as much as $550,000 – and help them chip away at a $24.5 million deficit.

SCUSD Observer comment:
Again, the process is flawed…
The SCUSD Board did not properly consider the impact these proposed cuts will have on real people. They did not seek to involve anyone in a discussion about it — something this particular group of politicians botches on a monthly basis. Maybe the next elected board (this November) will practice more open communication, better transparency, and a little compassion when it makes decisions for the constituency it is supposed to serve.
