Old Marshall School to the Sacramento Charter Campus? Why?

In the next couple of weeks, we will be examining and discussing the school closures and budget cuts recommended by the SCUSD management to the school board at the April 2nd meeting. The Board is scheduled to vote on the recommendations at its April 16th meeting.

Last Thursday, staff recommended to close the Old Marshall Adult Education Center and to move the program to the campus of Sacramento Charter High School.

1. Sacramento Charter High School was recently modernized with taxpayer dollars, specifically, for high school students. Being that this facility is supposedly one of the oldest high schools west of the Mississippi, why isn’t Sacramento Charter High being utilized, exclusively, as a high school?

2. Is it prudent to house K-8, 9-12 and adult education programs all on one campus?

3. Why was the St. Hope administration historically opposed to the possibility of co-locating the consent-decree high school on the Sacramento Charter High campus, but the staff’s new plan to co-locate Old Marshall there presumably passes by the radar without so much as a public discussion?

4. How much revenue, in this economy, will the “renting out” of the Old Marshall facility generate for the District?
